Christmas is nearly upon us, therefore a Crochet Poinsettia Flower seems the perfect free crochet pattern to share with you. In the run up to Christmas I like to try to create as many handmade elements to our home and this year I wanted to the iconic Poinsettia Flower.
You can make your crochet flower in rich festive reds or snowy white. This pattern is best suited to advanced beginners as it requires a lot of motifs to create this beautiful flower. Each motif is individually made then sewn together to create.
This month I was kindly gifted some beautiful Mohair yarn from Novelaria in Sao Paulo. I have doubled the yarn to create my bracts and the fluffy yarn has created bracts which are deep in colour and texture which merges the stitches together. I love the effect the Mohair has creates, to me the finished flower seems more Christmassy and cosy. Of course you can go down the traditional route and use cotton as I have done in my photo example.
For this pattern you can use any yarn size of your choice with the matching crochet hook. I have used 3mm| D crochet hook and my Crochet Poinsettia Flower is 20cm in diameter, making a beautiful large flower which can be used within a Christmas Garland or as dinner plate decoration, a present topper or make a collection to use as Crochet Christmas Tree decorations.
