How to make a Crochet Puff Stitch Flower

For this month’s free pattern, I am going to show you how to make a crochet puff stitch flower. These beautiful little textured flowers look gorgeous as a single flower on a hair clip or string a collection together as I have to make a handmade crochet necklace. Each flower only takes a few meters of yarn (perfect for stash busting) and you can mix and match colours and textures to make the flower truly unique.

Materials

• 5 meters of yarn of your choice (I have used silk lace yarn)
• Matching crochet hook to your yarn I have used a 2.2mm crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Scissors

Gauge: N/A

Size: With lace yarn and 2.2mm crochet hook each flower is 2.5cm diameter.

Notes: Each flower is made of 2 rows which can be worked in the same yarn or change for each row if you wish. The flower is crocheted in the round and each petal is created using a puff stitch worked over two stitches.

Stitches

Puff Stitch: *Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, pick up yarn, yarn over pull through first loops on the hook* repeat to* 5 more times, yarn over, pull through all 7 loops. In the pattern the puff stitch is worked over two stitches.

Crochet Puff Stitch Flower

Row 1: Make a magic circle. Ch1, 10sc into the magic circle, sl st into the first st. Total: 10sc.

Row 2: *[Ch 3, *(yarn over, insert hook into same stitch, pick up yarn, pull through the first 2 loops)* repeat * to * 2 more times (4 loops on your hook), in the next stitch *(yarn over, insert hook into the stitch, pick up yarn, pull through the first 2 loops) repeat * to * 2 more times (7 loops on your hook),

Yarn over, pull through all 7 loops to close stitch, ch3, sl st into the same stitch, sl st in the next stitch (first petal is now finished)]*

repeat until you have 5 petals in total. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Repeat the process to create as many flowers as you wish. If you would like to make a necklace, make between 20-40 flowers depending on your size of flower & how long you would like to make the length. To make a double loop necklace I have made 30 crochet puff stitch flowers. Continue onto the next section to crochet the flowers into a string.

How to make Crochet Flower Necklace

Step 1: Chain 10, slst in the tip of a flower petal,

Step 2: Ch 5, sl st into the opposite side. Repeat steps 1 & 2 until you reach your desired necklace size. Sl sl into the first st. Fasten off and weave in your ends.
