How to make a Crochet Butterfly
Row 1: (First Coloured yarn) Make a magic circle, *chain 3, add a dc cluster into the magic circle, chain 3, sc into the magic circle* repeat * to * 3 more times, sl st into the magic circle, close magic circle. Fastern off and weave in your ends. Total: 4 Cluster stitches.
Row 2: (Contrasting Yarn), Attach the yarn to any FRONT LOOP sc stitch. Chain 1 (count as a heightening stitch), sc in to the same stitch, IN THE FRONT LOOP ONLY [5tr, picot (chain 2, sl st into the second from the stitch), 5tr] into the front loop the next cluster stitch, sc in to the next sc – First front wing complete, IN THE FRONT LOOP ONLY (5tr, picot, 5tr) of the next cluster stitch, sc in to the next sc – Second front wing complete, IN THE FRONT LOOP ONLY (5dc, picot, 5dc) of the next cluster stitch, sc in to the next sc – First back wing complete, IN THE FRONT LOOP ONLY (5dc, picot, 5dc) of the next cluster stitch – second back wing complete , sl st into the first sc. To create the body of the Butterfly, using the first coloured yarn, surface chain from the center base of the motif (in between the two smaller wings), to the top – I have made 5 chains in my example, without cutting the yarn, chain 4, sc in the second from the hook, 2 slst – creating the first antenna, sl st into the centre of the butterfly, chain 4, sc in the second from the hook, 2 slst, sl st into the final surface chain. Fasten off & weave in your ends.
