To make my crochet wrist warmers I have used, baby aplaca yarn which is hypoallengenic , ideal for those of use who have delicate skin (click HERE to read my article on hypoallergenic yarns) . As aplaca yarn is 7 times warmer than standard sheep’s wool my crochet fingerless gloves are delicate (not your usual bulky crochet) & light weight. The nature of the bpdc & fpdc create a double insulated fabric out of the fine fingering yarn which will keep your hands lovely & warm.
Make your own crochet fingereless gloves with my easy step by step written photo tutorial or if you prefer a video tutorial, I have also made a Youtube video.
The crochet pattern for my Crochet Fingerless Gloves for beginners is also available as a print friendly PDF in my ETSY Store.
Materials
- 3mm (US D) Crochet hook
- 200 meters Fingering weight yarn (For my wristlets I have used Lamana Yarn Piura double up)
- 20 meters of contrasting yarn if you wish to add embroidery
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
Gauge: 24 stitches and 10 rows to measure 10 x 10 (4x4in) over dc sts
Size: When laid flat 21 cm in length x 9.5 cm width (double this for full circumference of hand = 19cm) with stretch on both sides.
Notes: Pattern is worked flat to your desired width then seamed along the edge. You can choose to add a thumb hole. For decoration I have added some embroidery with the same Lamana yarn in a contrasting pattern. Ch3 will be counted as a dc. To create the knit rib effect BPDC & FPDC is used. Each row will be defined as Wrong and Right side.
Instructions
Row 1: Chain 52, dc in 4th from the hook, 48dc. Turn. Total: 50dc.
Row 2: (Right Side) Ch3 (count as first dc), 49bpdc. Turn. Total: 50 stitches.
Row 3: (Wrong Side) Ch3 (count as first dc), 49fpdc. Turn. Total: 50 stitches.
Repeat Rows (2&3) 15 times or until you reach your desired width. Leave a long tail 50cm before you cut your yarn (this will be used to sew your seam).
Wristlet without thumb hole: Using the long tail align the crochet face to face (therefore you seam will be hidden inside), sew together the foundation chain to the final row of your crochet, matching each stitch up one by one. Fasten off & weave in your ends. Repeat for the second wristlet.
Wristlet with thumb hole: Using the long tail align the crochet face to face (therefore you seam will be hidden inside), sew together the foundation chain to the final row of your crochet, matching each stitch up one by one up 30 stitches, Fasten off & weave in your ends. Attach the yarn again 10 stitches up and seam together the final 10 stitches. Fasten off & weave in your ends. Repeat for the second wristlet.
Embroidery
If you wish to add some decoration to your crochet wrist warmers, embroider a design of your choice in a contrasting yarn.
My leaf embroidery design was inspired by two wonderfully talented ladies who create the most stunningly beautiful embroidery, plus they both give FREE VIDEO TUTORIALS on how to create each stitch.
