Today I will show you how to make Crochet Lavender. Lavender is a smell which reminds me of our beautiful Rottweiler, Fergie. I know it sounds odd & even crazy but it is the truth! In our garden as a child we had two huge Lavender shrubs which Fergie would brush past each day, releasing the Lavender oils into the air which would then stick to her fur. So yes I had a Rottweiler that did small of English Lavender. I wish I had a photo of Fergie to share with you but unfortunately it was the time before we had camera phones, so here is a photo of our current family Rottweiler ‘Layla Lu’ who lives with my parents in Manchester but does not smell of Lavender.
This is the twelfth pattern in a series of FREE CROCHET FLOWER patterns I have & will be sharing with you as many of us stay at home through the coming days & weeks.
My free Crochet Lavender pattern is written below with a simple step by step written photo tutorial or if you prefer a video tutorial, I have also made a Youtube video.
Materials
- 10 meters of purple yarn of your choice
- Matching crochet hook to your yarn
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- 50cm florist wire
Gauge: N/A. Use the smallest crochet hook you can with your chosen yarn to create tight stitches, this will help your petal keep the form & not flop.
Size: Using fingering weight Clea Circulo yarn & a 1.75mm crochet hook my Lavender was 6cm tip to base & 1.5cm wide.
Notes: The flower is made in the round using Popcorn stitch. As the round is very small I would recommend using a stitch marker at the beginning of each row.
How to make Crochet Lavender
Row 1: Make a magic circle, ch 3 (count as the first dc in the popcorn stitch), add 4 more dc into the magic circle,
remove the hook from the last dc & insert into the first dc (ch3), pick up the yarn and pull through the loop,
Popcorn stitch is now finished, ch1, *popcorn stitch, ch1* repeat * 2 more times, sl st into the first popcorn stitch. Total: 4 popcorn stitches.
Row 2: Ch 3 (count as the first dc in the popcorn stitch), add 4 more dc into the same stitch, remove the hook from the last dc & insert into the first dc (ch3), pick up the yarn and pull through the loop, Popcorn stitch is now finished, ch1 skip st, *popcorn stitch, ch1, skip stitch* repeat * 2 more times, sl st into the first popcorn stitch. Total: 4 popcorn stitches.
Rows 3-4: Repeat Row 2. Total: 4 Popcorn stitches.
Row 5: The final row is made from one Popcorn stitch which is divided between the 4 of the previous row. Ch3 (count as a dc), dc in the same st, *skip st, dc* repeat * twiice more, remove hook from final dc, insert into first dc (ch3), pick up yarn & pull through to make one Popcorn st. Fasten off & weave in your ends.
Assembly
Cut a piece of florist wire to double your desired length. Insert the wire through Row 1, twist underneath the base of the Crochet Lavender. If you wish you can wind green yarn around your florist wire to finish off.
