My free crochet stocking pattern is one of the first free Christmas crochet patterns I will be releasing over the next four weeks. As we head into the festive season with the pandemic I am determined more than ever (as I sure many of you are), to make this season as special and magical for my daughter. She has finally reached the age when she understands what Christmas is and is very excited to write to Father Christmas. We may not be able to visit our family this year but we can still try to make this season filled with lots of special moments.
Today I am sharing with you my free crochet stocking pattern which is made with the crochet waistcoat stitch, when used in the round gives the texture of knit. These cute little stocking can be made as a Christmas stocking advent calendar, tree decorations or added as the finishing touches to your wrapped gift this year. These are a great yarn stash buster and can be made in any colour.
This is the first free crochet Christmas patterns I have & will be sharing with you as many of us stay at home through the month of November.
My simple step by step written photo tutorial is below or if you prefer a video tutorial, I have also made a Youtube video.
Materials
- 3mm (US D) Crochet hook
- 150 meters Fingering weight yarn ( I have used Charme, Circulo)
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Stitch marker
Gauge: 32st x 22 rows using wasitcoat sc over 10 x 10cms. Using a crochet hook 1-2 times larger than suggested will help create the waistcoat stitch with ease.
Size: 15cm long when cuff is unfolded, 5cm width at widest point.
Notes: The stockings are made in a spiral so I would recommend using a stitch marker. The pattern will start with sc then on row 3 switch to waistcoat stitch, as this a tight stitch I suggest to use a crochet hook one or 2 sizes bigger than recommend for your yarn for ease. The first few rows are a little slow, but once you get used to the pattern the sock does work up quickly. The heel is section is turned then the sock continues in the spiral. Once you reach your desired height a sc trim is added to finish the stocking.
