Crochet Coaster Pattern - Wheat - Moara Crochet

Crochet Coaster Pattern| Free Crochet Pattern

My Wheat Crochet Coaster pattern is inspired by my favourite ceramic cup made by Rebecca Wililams, a talented ceramic designer in England. I love handmade ceramics, each cup of tea I drink feels so special as I hold a unique piece of pottery which I know has been handmade with love, care & skill. To compliment the design I have created a easy crochet coaster with a simple embroidery design, using a mix surface crochet & the classic lazy daisy embroidery stitch.

One of my aims as a crochet deisgner is to find ways in which we can reduce our waste & be ‘Crochet Conscious’ through making items for ourselves & our home. Try my other Crochet Conscious patterns HERE.

My free Crochet Coaster pattern is written below with a simple step by step written photo tutorial or if you prefer a video tutorial, I have also made a Youtube video showing you how to add the crochet embroidery design.

Materials

  • 30 meters of DK cotton yarn – Circulo Charme
  • 30 meters of Ito Kinu Silk
  • 5 meters of fingering weight contrasting yarn
  • 3mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Gauge: 16 st x 8 rows per 10 x 10cm (dc stitch).

Size: Using a combination of Circulo Charm (Terrcotta) & Ito Kinu Silk yarn (Paprika) with 3mm crochet hook = 8.5 x 8.5 cm square.

Notes: I have made my coasters with a combination of yarns to create a rustic look, if you wish you can use one yarn. The coaster is made first, turning after each row. The wheat design is made using crochet surface stitch & Lazy Daisy embroidery stitch.

Surface Crochet & Embroidery

Decide which is the front & back of your crochet coaster. Find the center of the front of the coaster, starting at the bottom add 10 surface crochet stitches vertically. Leave a long tail of 50cm, pull tail through to the front.

Crochet Embroidery Step 1 - Moara Crochet

If you are unsure how to surface crochet I have made a step by step tutorial HERE.

To add the buds of Wheat to your crochet coaster we will use the Lazy Daisy Embroidery Stitch.

Step 1 :Thread the tapestry needle to the end of the yarn tail, insert the needle into the same hole where the tail of the yarn came to the front of the coaster without pulling it all the way through weave the needle up 2 rows above (as shown below), this will be your stitch length.

Step 2: Ensure the loop is behind the tip of needle, pull the thread all the way through to create a loop a loop on the surface of your work, (the tighter you pull, the narrower the loop will be). Hi I have just found you. Had to contact you to say how beautiful I think your work is. At last a crochet site that isn’t saturated with Acrylic Granny Squares and the obligatory Picnic Blanket.
Please keep sharing your lovely work.

    Michelle. U.K.
